CONFERENCE VENUE

The venue selected for all conference sessions is the Radisson SAS Plaza Hotel, a modern, de luxe hotel, located in the Oslo city centre. The hotel has a beautiful panoramic view of Oslo and includes several restaurants, bars and a night-club. The address of the hotel is:

Access

Oslo is easily accessible by road, rail, sea and air. Oslo International Airport Gardermoen is located 45 km north-east of the city centre. Official airline
SAS (Scandinavian Airlines System) is the official airline of the LESI Oslo 2003 World Conference. Immigration and visas
Norway is a member of the Schengen group of countries. However, all foreign nationals except those from the Nordic countries must hold a valid passport or other authorized travel document when entering Norway. Visas will be required for visitors from certain countries. For further information you are advised to check with airlines, local travel agencies or the nearest Norwegian consular service.
 
Climate and weather
Norway lies in the Northern Temperate Zone. The weather is pleasant at this time of the year, with an average mid-day temperature in Oslo ranging between 15 and 22 degrees Celcius. Days are generally sunny, but with a rainy day in between.
 

What to wear
General summer clothing. However, we recommend you to have a warm sweater at hand for the chilly evenings and rainwear for the possible rainy days. The mountains can be cool, so bring some warm underclothing. Remember also to bring comfortable walking shoes. Norwegians love to walk. Generally, dress is informal and casual wear is acceptable during the conference sessions. For the evening indoor

 

functions, it is recommended that gentlemen wear a lounge suit and ladies wear business or dinner dress. For the Gala Dinner and Dance, Black Tie/Dinner Dress, dark Lounge Suit or Business Attire is recommended.
 
Time zone
Norway is on continental European time, 1 hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). Please note the daylight saving time during the summer season.
 
Insurance
Conference participants are strongly advised to carry the proper travel and health insurance, as the organizer does not accept liability for any accidents or injuries that may occur. Travel insurance should be taken out before departure from your own country.

Participants who have special requirements in respect of diet or other matters are asked to inform the Conference Secretariat in writing before 15 May 2003.
 
Language
All conference and workshop presentations as well as printed material will be in English.
